Recap on the ENR Webinar: The Future of Collaborative File Sharing

If you tuned into today’s ENR webinar, The Future of Collaborative File Sharing you realized that there is considerable confusion in the construction marketplace around document collaboration (e.g., Box, DropBox), project collaboration (e.g., Procore, Aconex, PM Web), and ECM solutions (e.g., Paperless Environments, OnBase, VCM, and Alfresco). Many companies are using one or more of these solution classes instead of the proper solution class for their needs.

Shift in Software Implementation Methodologies

BCG has begun to observe and embrace an important shift in implementation methodologies among the ERP software vendors. The change has been a result of changes in construction companies as well as in the software products themselves. The former have gotten leaner with less time and patience to devote to complex implementations and the latter have grown more complex with many more options and configuration settings to contend with.

Application Support: User Community versus IT

One of the trends BCG has begun to see over the last two years has been a migration of system support from the IT department to the user community or specially designated super-user. With all of the responsibility IT has inherited, including infrastructure, common applications and non-system technology like cell phones, IT simply does not have time to be the custodian for most of the business applications.

Technology Community Consolidation

Interesting, one of the top trends in Information Week is actually consistent with a trend in construction IT, that of consolidation. The publishers of Information Week are reporting record acquisitions within the technology community over the last two years.

The Correlation Between IT Investment and Real Productivity Benefits

In fairness, the authors, both professors at prestigious business schools, have done a very credible job of sifting through considerable IT and productivity data and studies to develop what is a fairly small book.

Sage Timberline’s New Product – Next Generation

During a recent client meeting BCG was introduced to Sage‘s next generation ERP product that is intended to be the migration path for current Timberline TCO users. The reseller, an experienced Timberline dealer, along with a Sage representative gave a good presentation of the new Enterprise application as it is being called.
